POW & comments:
Why changing a R1150GS with 50000km which works perfectly? Just because year 2005 will for sure see this last R1150GS model being removed from the BMW catalog and i would prefer to wait for the 1200GS to have eliminated all of it's little problem before i can be confident with it (i am not paid to run the functionnal test) and i think this new version of the GS has become to technological for a so called Adventure bike.I dont like the idea of been obliged to resquest my dealer for each problem i get. Anyway i have no problem with the weight difference of the 1150 vs the 1200, the extra power given by the 1200 engine is where (in RPM) i almost never go, i can use my same accessories for the 3rd time (1x 1100GS and 2x 1150GS) and i do like the look of that R1150GS.
The saddle in the BMW low version (860mm) is a correct position for me (1M75) and seems to be comfortable (probably helped by the shock absorbers quality).
The 30liter tank is not just a mind confort by thinking you may ride much more than 500km w/o looking for a station; it is also a great protection for the lower body part. You no more have your knees freezing in winter, no water in case of light rain and no more air stream coming up from the engine to your head, it works a bit like a fairing.
This new engine is much more easier to use with the twin spark techno and the gear box with the shorter (much shorter) 6th gear help in using more of the great torque available (speed is 120km at odo for a 4000rpm). In fact it need time to be used to this new ratio (which is not far from the 1100GS one), but it is in fact more usable when you ride 80% of your time on twisty secondary road like i do. As a summary i would say: Much for comfortable and pleasant to ride. At 30Mkm i purchased and replaced the stock shocks with a pair of EMC shocks. The stocks were not out of order but i did want to reduce the saddle height and get better riding quality. This works great! Easier handling and even more comfort.

Service:
By BMW until end of warranty period. Then after i do it myself for a much cheaper price and better quality compared to the expensive poor level of service of the dealer.

Tires:
By chance this new GS was available with my prefered T66X from Michelin, i will then be able to enjoin than for a 12 to 14000km. Today my favorite tyres are the TR91 from Dunlop, just perfect on tarmac but really not an offroad one
